Day 52: Back to Routine, Back to the Crowd

"Rest paid off. Returning to a structured routine brought noticeable relief, even as the day unfolded into another long stretch of walking and stimulation. Energy was there, the knee cooperated reasonably well, and the balance between discipline and enjoyment felt closer to right."

Time to get back to routine. I woke up around 8:00 while everyone else was still sleeping. Quiet mornings are rare on this trip, so I used it well. PowerDot, massage, Theragun, and ice. The difference was immediate. The rest from yesterday clearly helped offset all the walking, and today the knee felt lighter and more responsive.

We dropped the kids off with their grandparents, who are in Tokyo for a few days. A rare window opened. Time to shop without kids. My wife and I took full advantage. Streetwear shops, Hands, Uniqlo, and then Donki. What an experience. Six floors, packed with people, and an endless mix of random things. Chocolates, souvenirs, gadgets, stuff nobody really needs but everyone seems to buy. Overstimulating, but entertaining.

Back to Bic Camera next, but no real time to shop properly. The grandparents were calling, ready to return the kids. They are lovely, but also a handful, especially in a big city like this. We picked them up, and suddenly it was already 14:30. Still no lunch.

We passed through Takeshita Street and grabbed quick ramen. Finally some fuel. Then rest. A beer. A small pause in the middle of the chaos. The kids wanted to go to a dog café. I still do not fully understand the concept, but they absolutely loved it. This city really embraces cuteness. Puppies, pastel colors, tiny outfits, toys, fashion. A whole culture built around it.

In the evening, we had dinner with my wife’s cousin who lives in Tokyo. Super nice family, great conversation, and amazing sushi. By the end of it, exhaustion had settled in deeply. Good exhaustion, but still heavy.

Back home, rest again. I booked the train for tomorrow. We are heading to Hakone for a day trip, following my wife’s cousin’s recommendation. Mount Fuji, nature, and hopefully fewer crowds. A small escape inside the bigger journey.
